Taking it easy

Mumford & Sons with Laura Marling

It’s been such a quiet week so far, I’ve had nothing much to write about. I’ve been taking it easy therefore my mind has been on autopilot these last few days, all I’ve really done is take full advantage of my Spotify subscription and listened to some music I’ve not heard in years and found a few new bands (to me at least).

If you’re interested both artists play folk/indie type music:
Mumford & Sons:
They are described as a folk/bluegrass group formed in London in September 2008. Having received critical acclaim from The Guardian on their “Band of the Day” online forum, and resounding praise from nearly everyone who has witnessed them supporting The Maccabees and Laura Marling, Mumford & Sons continue to turn heads in London’s growing folk scene.

I did give The Maccabees and Laura Marling a listen but they didn’t do much for me, I really enjoyed Mumford & Sons though, they remind me a little of Fairport Convention who I listen to quite regularly. I’m not sure if Mumford & Sons would approve me saying that but I only listen to a few folk bands.

The other artist I enjoyed having a listen to was Angus & Julia Stone, they are described thus:
Angus and Julia’s decision to collaborate was taken at the beginning of 2006. Prior to that, both had performed as solo artists at open mike nights but utilised the other as a backing partner. Ultimately they came up with the same idea, “Why don’t we play together? It kind of made a lot of sense”. In terms of composing the material, they write on their own, then work together on structure and harmonies.

This brother and sister act are very melodic and quite calming to listen to, Julies voice reminds me of a very calm version of Bjork (if that’s possible!).

So, that’s me up to date.
