Saxophone Massive @ NNF11

NNF11If you haven’t already noticed, I’m supporting the Norfolk & Norwich Festival by adding a link to their website via the image above.

Today was the festival opener and what a fantastic sight and sound it was! Over 200 saxophonists on Millennium Plane entertaining the hundreds crowded around the stage. I was looking forward to this free show as I love the sound of saxophones and I wasn’t disappointed by the stunning sound of all these saxophones.

I was hoping to find that someone had already uploaded a video clip so that I could post it here but it appears no one has yet. Here is something very similar organised by the same musicians in France.

Yesterday we had a young lady in the shop asking for some sheet music. She was associated with the festival and was on a last minute hunt for props for one of the theatres. After some searching we found her some sheets that she was delighted with as they were also from the period when the play is set. She was worried that the cast members or other backroom staff might damage them as she was a musician and new the value of sheet music whereas some of the other theatre people saw them as just props.

She was back today buying yet more sheet music as her worst fears had come true. The sheets were so of the period that they had done away with their original posters in the box office only to rip the fronts off of the sheet music and used these fronts to design a new box office poster! The poor woman was distraught but happy that we had similar stock so that these sheets could then be used for their original purpose, decorating the set.

I’m not too sure how many events I will be attending over the festival but this evening was great and there are free events happening every day of the festival so I intend to make the most of these free things to see and do over the next three weeks.
